About Gia Marie Houck

Gia Marie Houck Gia Marie Houck I use my camera to capture the subtle intricacies of life and the world around us. I enjoy finding those quieter, lesser-noticed, but beautiful moments and shining a little light on them. My work includes images from my beloved Austin as well as from world-wide travels, and I am gratified that my photographs are collected and exhibited internationally. Images showcased in published works include: “War Mother” on the June 2009 cover of The Sun Magazine; “Beautiful Compost” in I Garden: Urban Style, Reggie Solomon and Michael Nolan (2010); Various images of Brompton Cemetery in London Out of Sight: Exploring the City’s Secret Green Spaces, Black Dog Publishing (2013); “Letting Go" in Pulse- Voices from the Heart of Medicine, pulsevoices.org (2016), and “Fridgehenge” in Cryopolitics: Frozen Life in a Melting World, Joanna Radin and Emma Kowal (2017). I will be showing in three group exhibitions and one solo exhibition in the final quarter of 2019. I have exhibited at The People’s Gallery Group Exhibition, Austin City Hall, Austin, Texas (2018- 2019) and also (2019-2020) , The Long Shot 2017 Group Exhibition, Seattle, Washington; The ARTiculation Artists Collective, both EAST And WEST Austin, Texas Studio Tours (2017-2018); and the 5 x 7 Group Exhibition at The Contemporary, Austin, Texas (2011). A selection of my work entitled Into the West was featured in a solo exhibition in Vienna, Austria, at the Odaada Gallery. Two of my 36”x 24” signature truck pieces, “ORD” and “Chevrolet” are featured in the permanent collection of The Current Iowa: An Art-Themed Boutique Hotel.
